The other Side of WIKIHOW.

In the age of the internet, this generation has many valuable uses at its disposal. Entertainment, advice, business ventures, blogs, and even learning is a possibility with the internet. These helpful options that the internet offers can be applied in everyday life. Aside from google, bing, yahoo search, which are the bigger browsers, more specific sites like wikipedia and wikihow have been there to save our days over the years.
Wikihow has a self explanatory name because through the site wiki there are articles that show people how to do many things, some simple and some complicated. As stated before the internet offers many options that can help in everyday life and wikihow is definitely at the top of the list.
As we take use if these options do we ever wonder what it's like being on the other end, being the one to give the help? Wikihow also offers that alternative. So given the task of making a wikihow was a new experience.
To make a wikihow it is necessary to make a google account and pick a topic. The topic has to be one that is not already used which is not as easy as some may think. So just brainstorming thoroughly about the topics is required. The topic can vary from cooking recipes to something as simple as how to brush your teeth for example. It is important to find a topic with some familiarity. Once that was done the next step was to construct the page in an organized fashion, starting off with an outline to go off of. It is also helpful to use other wikihow articles as an example because the whole blueprint is available to take advantage of. Once the outline is carefully looked over and ready, the next step is to get pictures to help further explain the article. Sometimes pictures are more valuable to the viewer than the actual words. Also available for demonstration uses is the use of video which might be the most effective way of explanation. Further in the article making process comes coding. Coding is very technical and to be honest, just plain annoying. Luckily the coding doesn't have to be that complicated with the stated before, blueprint wikihow has. All it takes is to go to advanced edit on a article of choice, and boom the blueprint of coding is available.
After that the article making process is almost at its end. During this process it was necessary for safety purposes to put the same work on a flash drive just in case all is lost, or put the most recent coding in a word document. Once coding is done, it was time to insert pictures. The pictures get added with the add image option in the editing area. Again pictures and videos give best explanations. That also has to be done carefully. One the ways to make sure the pictures are ready to go on wikihow is by using photoshop. The experience of photoshop was fun. In photoshop it is possible to do many things to a photo. For this project the photos needed to be the correct size. Specifically the photo had to have a resolution of 72 on photoshop which was the perfect fit for a wikihow article. Once the picture was perfected into size it needed to be saved in a “jpeg” file to also secure that it could go on wikihow. After all the pictures and videos if used are edited and inserted publishing is next. Just like the outline, another thorough look over is necessary. Wikihow also allows you to preview the article before publishing. Here they give you the ability to look over any mistakes there might be. Lastly needed is some tips and warnings that might be helpful for future viewers of the articles. This can be anything seeming fit. Finally publishing the article is now a reality.
Of course one would think after pressing the publish button all is done, but not quite. All is done as far as the project/article is concerned but the greenlight from wiki administration might not always be on green. Wiki may be picky with the article. The article could be considered too close to another, promoting other businesses, or not coded right. There may be no way of publishing the article or admins can offer solutions to the problem and move from there, either way it's still a picky process. All in all the project is something worth doing. It is very technical but can be fun when doing something familiar and creative. The biggest thing about WIKIHOW is the communication aspect. Communicated simple tasks and complicated tasks all of which is needed in this world.
